First, Thank you! My kids are loving it! "This is so much fun!" they tell me. :) Even my 2 year old can sing Rule #1! He might not "get" it yet, but it will be that much easier for him when it comes time. I have used 3 other Spalding flavor programs in the past and investigated others. While they each have their good points... NOTHING had the whole package that you offer. You make it so easy to use. The best part to me is that I don't have to worry anymore about "holes". I could go on, but I am sure you have heard this all before.

The PHONICS Road to Spelling and Reading

Level Four

By Barbara Beers

The Year of the Journeyman

Building skills in Spelling, Writing, Reading, Grammar, and Composition

A $343 Value

Designed to follow Level Three

This Year there are Four Sections of Study:

1). Spelling Log/Designing Applications - The final 600 new spelling words, most of which are considered junior high and high school vocabulary, continue to be built with Rule Tunes, Framing notes, and Designing applications.

2). Framing/Framing Codes - Beginning with a review of the simple parts of speech and simple sentence structures, this year you introduce complex sentence structures and practice them by building scaffolding, my process of sentence diagramming, in preparation for Latin.

3). Designing Codes - The Journeyman learns another 30 common Latin roots to which he adds Latin prefixes and suffixes to not only prepare him for Latin next year but aid in his  spelling of complicated English words. We build another 250 words using these designing tools in notebook and game format.

4). Reading/Composition - The student will read-aloud Carry On Mr. Bowditch daily and learn various literary elements through dictation and composition activities. We end the year with Finishing Codes, merging all the elements of vocabulary and grammar to compose interesting and well-written paragraphs.

The PHONICS Road to Spelling and Reading provides an enjoyable and fun presentation of the material, learning to build the English language in the same way a carpenter learns to build a house.

Throughout the study, the parent/teacher is the Foreman, guiding the student through various skill levels. The student is an Apprentice for the first three years, then becomes a Journeyman in the 4th year as he prepares for The LATIN Road to English Grammar.

The Apprentice begins by learning the tools of his trade - single vowels and consonants, vowel teams and consonant teams. After these tools are mastered, the Apprentice uses them to build words according to the Blueprints (spelling list). Along the way the Foreman shows that words are formed according to Building Codes (spelling rules). Rules are set to songs - Rule Tunes - for easy memorization.
